° Letter from the Editor

° “Pope” Francis versus St. Francis
The Vile Representation of a Great Saint
by Rev. Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI
In his encyclical letter on St. Francis of Assisi, Pope Pius XI, in 1926, warned the world against a false devotion to this seraphic saint: “All of this [his love of nature, poetry, patriotism, fraternal charity] is quite admirable but it is the least that is to be praised in Our Saint, and it all must be understood in a correct sense.” It is precisely for possessing these “virtues” that his namesake is receiving universal praise, all the while destroying the Church which St. Francis worked so hard to re-build.

° The Discarded Icon
By Hermes Gerhard, translated by a Marian Sister
A heartwarming Marian Christmas story, set amid the war horrors of Russia.

° Monsignor Moisés Carmona Rivera, Pillar of Traditionalism in Mexico
Part VI: “Excommunication” and Formation of the Trent Catholic Union
by Rev. Fr. Daniel A. Perez Gomez
Holding fast to the Faith, and celebrating exclusively the tridentine Latin Mass, Fr. Carmona received notice of “excommunication,” as well as pleas from old friends to accept and embrace the changes of Vatican II, pleas which he answered with his usual steadfastness.

° The Silence of the Shepherds
The Culpable Omission of the Conciliar Hierarchy to Teach the Truth
by Rev. Fr. Benedict Hughes, CMRI
Moral issues that shock the nation, such as the recent Planned Parenthood scandal, very seldom receive any comment from the shepherds who should be vigilantly protecting their flocks from harm. The poor sheep who turn to them for light and guidance remain in the danger of darkness.

° The Precious Blood of Jesus
The Price of Our Salvation
A Sermon Preached by Rev. Fr. Bernard Uttley, OSB
Although Our Lord’ Humanity is worthy of divine honor, since it is united to a divine Person, the Church allows public veneration and official liturgical worship for only two parts of His humanity: His Sacred Heart and His Precious Blood. The reason would seem to be that these two parts are most closely connected with our Savior. His Heart is the symbol of the love which urged our Blessed Lord to deliver Himself to death for us, and the shedding of His blood was the actual means by which expiation the sins of the world was made....

° Respice Stellam
Our Lady’s Intercession
by Rev. Fr. Eugen Rissling
Reflections on a popular German Marian prayer that can help us with our own meditations on Mary’s maternal assistance.

° In Season—Out of Season
Mount St. Michael’s Centennial
Text from a sermon preached by Fr. Casimir Puskorius on Sept. 27, 2015
Tradition endures! Holding fast to the same Faith that the Jesuits preached when they built the Mount in 1915, the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen has been celebrating the centenniel of this building by extensive renovations, true renovations to maintain the beauty of this house of God.

° Catholic Heroes of America
Fr. Solanus Casey, OFM Cap.
by Rev. Fr. Francisco Radecki, CMRI
This Wisconsin native was a modern wonderworker, entering eternity in 1957 after many years of humble service as a priest in the Capuchin Order. Hundreds of miracles were worked in his lifetime, mainly through the power of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. He has a shrine where he can still be venerated — St. Bonaventure’s, Detroit, Michigan.

° Servus Mariae
The Avoidance of Venial Sin
by Rev. Fr. Dominic Radecki, CMRI
We live in a world that is in denial of sin, surrounded by worldlings who have no concept of sin. For the most part, Catholics do what they can to avoid mortal sin, but what about venial sin? Deliberate venial sin is perhaps the greatest obstacle to sanctity; it is an offense against the good God, and as such must be avoided as a great evil.
