Observation of Sunday When Mass Attendance is Impossible

Dear friends and benefactors,

During this past month, Bishop Davila (Hermosillo, Mexico) and I gathered with our priests from Mexico and the United States for our second International Priests’ Meeting. Although not all our priests could attend (from moral impossibility or difficulties with the necessary visas) those priests who could attend had a wonderful opportunity to review Canon Law, Moral Theology and Dogmatic Theology, and to build a stronger bond of unity between themselves.

The speakers for our conferences were Bishop Davila, Fr. Daniel Perez, Fr. Francisco Radecki, CMRI, and myself. Fortunately, Fr. Gerard McKee, CMRI and Fr. Ephrem Cordova, CMRI are fluent in Spanish and provided for the necessary translations from Spanish to English and vice versa.

For myself, I welcome our “South-of-the-Border” priests — a number of whom I have ordained to the holy priesthood (between 1991 when Bishop Carmona died to 1999 when I consecrated Bishop Davila).

At the conclusion of my final conference, I exhorted the priests to be ever mindful of their responsibilities to preserve the Catholic Faith and to work for the salvation of souls especially in these times of great crisis and confusion in the Church. I also reminded them that their apostolic work needs to be supported by the grace of God which comes from a life of prayer.

After a very hectic summer with retreats, priest meetings and frequent travels, I look forward to our upcoming seminary year. Our new property is daily being renovated slowly but surely. As always, you are remembered in our prayers!

With my blessing and sincere appreciation for your support,
Most Rev. Mark A. Pivarunas, CMRI
